to end the Israeli Occupation of Palestine
Speaker: Nancy Murray

In 2005, over 100 Palestinian civil society groups called for “international civil society organizations and people of conscience all over the world to impose broad boycotts and implement divestment initiatives against Israel similar to those applied to South Africa in the apartheid era”
In response to this call, many groups around the country are engaged in boycotts, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) efforts, which are having an impact.
Come to a forum to learn more about BDS and the “Hang Up on Motorola” campaign and to discuss whether this campaign might be an effective tool to help bring peace to the Middle East.

War Expands in Pakistan and Afghanistan
US and Coalition Forces Out of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq
Washington proclaimed itself the savior of Afghanistan when it invaded that country in 2001—the opening shot in its “global war on terror.” Eight years later, that image is fading in the eyes of the local population, which has witnessed village after village bombed by U.S. forces seeking to rout Islamist fighters.

Dr. George Tiller was shot and killed Sunday morning while serving as an usher at his church in Witchita , Kansas . Since the 1970s, Dr. Tiller has provided critical abortion and reproductive health care at great personal risk. In doing so, he has saved the lives and futures of countless women and girls across the country. His murder is a tragedy for his family, friends, and colleagues. It is also a tragedy for the women who need his care and for the entire community of health care providers and advocates, and for all of us who believe in a woman's right to dignity and self-determination. Please join us in honoring this great man who truly lived by his motto to "Trust Women."
Join the Boston community in sharing our grief and celebrating the life of Dr. George Tiller, a true hero for women across the country.

DR. VIVIANE SALEH-HANNA
Where did this system of domination and control, from the police to the
prisons, come from? How have we gotten to the place of international prison
expansion? Viviane Saleh-Hanna will discuss with us about how we have gotten
to where we are and the impacts of globalization on the international rise
of the prison industrial complex.
Dr. Saleh-Hanna is an activist scholar who has worked with prisoners of the
criminal justice system internationally. Prior to moving to the United
States, she lived in Nigeria and worked with prisoners in Nigeria, Ghana and
the Gambia. Her book Colonial Systems of Control: Criminal Justice in
Nigeria is the first publication on prisons in West Africa. More recently,
her scholarly work has focused on the role music plays in black liberation
struggles and the fight against mass incarceration.

The Center for Arabic Culture is proud to present performing artist, Lana Nasser, in her one-woman show, "Arab Woman Talking." Lana will portray the feminine spirit in its ongoing struggle to emerge in traditional Arab culture, and to bridge between her various experiences as an Arab woman.
"Using nothing more than a scarf, her voice, and the movements of her body, Nasser creates a rich atmosphere of myth, legend, and personal suffering that invites the audience to feel for themselves the powerful cross-currents of psychospiritual life for Arab women, past and present..."

There will be a public forum to analyze and discuss U.S. involvement in Afghanistan and Pakistan, especially the rapidly expanding use of military force. Since reliable information about these countries is so scarce in mainstream media, this forum hopes to provide historical, cultural, and political context. A Questions and Answers portion of the forum will also help stimulate public understanding and dialogue.
