Dr. George Tiller was shot and killed Sunday morning while serving as an usher at his church in Witchita , Kansas . Since the 1970s, Dr. Tiller has provided critical abortion and reproductive health care at great personal risk. In doing so, he has saved the lives and futures of countless women and girls across the country. His murder is a tragedy for his family, friends, and colleagues. It is also a tragedy for the women who need his care and for the entire community of health care providers and advocates, and for all of us who believe in a woman's right to dignity and self-determination. Please join us in honoring this great man who truly lived by his motto to "Trust Women."
Join the Boston community in sharing our grief and celebrating the life of Dr. George Tiller, a true hero for women across the country.

DR. VIVIANE SALEH-HANNA
Where did this system of domination and control, from the police to the
prisons, come from? How have we gotten to the place of international prison
expansion? Viviane Saleh-Hanna will discuss with us about how we have gotten
to where we are and the impacts of globalization on the international rise
of the prison industrial complex.
Dr. Saleh-Hanna is an activist scholar who has worked with prisoners of the
criminal justice system internationally. Prior to moving to the United
States, she lived in Nigeria and worked with prisoners in Nigeria, Ghana and
the Gambia. Her book Colonial Systems of Control: Criminal Justice in
Nigeria is the first publication on prisons in West Africa. More recently,
her scholarly work has focused on the role music plays in black liberation
struggles and the fight against mass incarceration.

A group of Latino immigrant workers, members of Centro Presente and the Chelsea Collaborative, are launching a week of action to demand justice. More than 30 Latino immigrant workers who were employed by local cleaning company franchises contracted to clean and maintain several Legal Sea Foods and Cheesecake Factory restaurants in the Greater Boston area did not receive payment for regular and overtime hours. Their cases are pending with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office.
Please help us to celebrate the beginning of summer and join us for a fun event that will bring our community, allies and friends together in an outdoor celebration of Latin American food, music and culture here at Centro Presente.

Bring your family, friends and a plate to share. We'll share with you our achievements and challenges in grassroots organizing in the Latino immigrant community. We would like to spend some time with you all, hear your thoughts and share a summer afternoon together as a community, united "en la lucha" for social justice.

So come on out and enjoy the opportunity to reconnect with old friends, make some new ones and enjoy the summer with us!
