UNITE-HERE - "Hotel Workers Rising - Standing with the Hyatt 100" Start: 11:00 am End: 2:30 pm Celebrating Labor and the International Workers' Holiday UNITE-HERE “Hotel Workers Rising - Standing with the Hyatt 100” On August 31, Hyatt fired its longtime housekeeping staff at its three Boston-area hotels. Many of the fired housekeepers worked for their hotels for over 20 years. Many were required to train their replacements before being fired. Their replacements are being paid minimum wage. The firing of the "Hyatt 100" housekeepers stands as the most dramatic example of Hyatt's contributing to the nation's unemployment problem and healthcare crisis. The incident has drawn the ire of workers and community leaders alike, including Massachusetts Governor, Deval Patrick, who said that he would call on state agencies to boycott the three Boston-area hotels if the housekeepers were not recalled.
