Michael Oren: The Israeli Ambassador of Apartheid is speaking at the Brandeis graduation at 10:30am. We hope you will want to join all of us who are appalled by his 'selling' of Israeli policy: the Gaza massacre, ongoing ethnic cleansing, the dispossession of Palestinian resources and the continued repression of Palestinian nonviolent resistance.

We will meet at the Stanley Elementary School 8:45am and together walk up to Brandeis University.  Please wear black, we will have signs emphasizing his role as Israel's mouthpiece.

The UJP Community Brunch is a potluck gathering of activists from community peace groups throughout the Greater Boston region.   We exchange news and ideas on projects and issues.

The Free Gaza flotilla carrying cement and building materials is now on its way, but Israel has threatened to stop it from reaching the Gaza Strip.   

Local members of The National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities (NALACC) will hold a rally in Boston in support of the Massive National Mobilization in Phoenix on the same day.

In the last month, local, national, and international pressure has grown with vigils, fasts, protests, high school walkouts, boycotts, and civil disobedience-all in repudiation of SB1070, a law that would provide legal cover for racial profiling.

MILITARY FAMILIES SPEAK OUT
"The Untold Stories of War: Surviving Loss and Organizing a Movement"

On this Memorial Day we will discuss the impact of the ongoing wars on families with loved ones in the military. The anti-war movement must be in direct relationship with those who are forced into the front lines. We will listen to the stories of families struggling to end the wars and bring their loved ones home.

Military Families Speak Out is an organization of people opposed to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan who have relatives or loved ones who are currently in the military or who have served in the military since the buildup to the Iraq war in the fall of 2002. Formed by two families in November of 2002, they have contacts with military families throughout the United States, and in other countries around the world. MFSO's membership currently includes over 3,400 military families, with new families joining daily.

Please join Veterans For Peace, Military Families Speak Out, Gold Star Families for Peace and the American Friends Service Committee for a ceremony for peace on Memorial Day.

The Israeli military has attacked unarmed Palestine solidarity activists bringing aid to blockaded and besieged Gaza.  A flotilla of international activists set said for Gaza bearing food, aid, and solidarity with the Gazan people.  For this "crime," they were attacked by Israeli commandos who boarded the humanitarians' ships and opened fire.  We know of at least ten activists killed, many wounded, and all have been detained by the Israeli military.  This coincides with a new assault on Gaza.  Come to an emergency action in protest of Israeli's relentless violence against the Palestinian people and those who stand in solidarity with them.

Yesterday, May 31, Boston condemned Israel's attack on the Free Gaza Flotilla with a spirited protest through the streets. 
Today, June 1,  the target is the Israeli Consulate.

At 1 PM there will be a die-in by a group of participants.

Why June 5

On June 5, 2010, thousands of people across the world will take part in coordinated local events to mark Nuclear Abolition Day. Our message is simple: it’s time for governments to begin negotiating a Nuclear Weapons Convention to ban all nuclear weapons.

Dorchester People for Peace will march with allies and supporters, bringing a Peace message to thousands of parade watchers. Our theme this year will be to End the Wars, and promote the campaign to Fund Our Neighborhoods/ Reduce Military Spending.

We always get a friendly and enthusiastic welcome from the crowd!

Marchers will gather around noon on Richmond St. in Lower Mills to decorate our truck/”float” -- with a projected kick-off after 1pm.  (Look for details in upcoming DPP Updates or by email/telephone if you RSVP.) The final marching order and location for various contingents will be announced by the Parade organizers a week before the event.

MASSPIRG is co-sponsoring an Activist Workshop. 

Run by trainers affiliated with The Public Interest Network, the Activist Workshop will cover the best techniques for organizing your neighbors to take action, and the best ways to persuade your local media to cover an issue you care about.   

Together with other members and activists, both professional and volunteer, from other public interest organizations, you'll have an opportunity to learn, share ideas and make new connections.
