March on the Pentagon
Saturday, March 21, 2009

From Iraq to Afghanistan to Palestine, Occupation is a Crime
Jobs & Education - Not Wars & Occupation

Gather at 12 noon at 23rd St. & Constitution Ave. NW in Washington, D.C.!

Various coalitions, organizations, and networks are joining together in a March 21 National Coalition to bring people from all walks of life and from all cities across the United States to take part in a March on the Pentagon on the sixth anniversary of the Iraq war: Saturday, March 21.  Simultaneous demonstrations are taking place in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

More than 1,500 organizations and individuals have now endorsed the March 21, 2009, March on the Pentagon to say “Bring the Troops Home NOW!” on the sixth anniversary of the criminal invasion of Iraq.

Endorsers include Veterans for Peace, Iraq Veterans Against the War, US Labor Against the War, Progressive Democrats of America, Code Pink, the ANSWER Coalition, the National Assembly to End the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars and Occupations, and many peace groups, social justice organizations, students, unions, and various Muslim, Arab, and Palestinian groups.

Locally, Boston United for Justice with Peace, New England United, and Stop the Wars Coalition have endorsed the demonstration.

The thousands who march will demand “From Iraq to Afghanistan to Palestine, Occupation is a Crime” and “We Need Jobs and Education, Not Wars and Occupation.” They will insist on an end to the bombings in Pakistan and the war threats and economic sanctions against Iran. They will say no to the illegal U.S. program of detention and torture.

The March on the Pentagon will culminate in a dramatic direct action where hundreds of coffins—representing the victims of militarism, Empire and corporate greed—will be carried and delivered to the headquarters of giant corporate offices of Boeing Company, Lockheed Martin Corporation, General Dynamics and KBR (the former subsidiary of Halliburton).  The march will be led by a large contingent of veterans and family members.

Michael McPhearson, Executive Director of Veterans for Peace and Co-Chair of UFPJ, in a recent statement “To the Pentagon and Wall Street; We Must March” has endorsed the march and he says:Democrats used anti-war agitation and mass sentiment as a stepping stone to gain a wider majority in Congress and win the White House. We will not let them turn now to use war as a means to forward their agendas. We will not allow them to go uncontested as they attempt to justify these morally deprived policies. More troops in Afghanistan equal more war in Afghanistan. We will not stand for that. We will be in Washington to make sure that both Congress and the President understand that our demand to Bring Them Home Now! Includes Afghanistan.”
