Tell Palin and Tea Partiers: Fund Jobs, Not War!

Tell Palin and Tea Partiers: Fund Jobs, Not War!

Woman of Mass Destruction

Join with peace and justice activists this Wednesday as we protest hate-monger Sarah Palin’s appearance in Boston.   Palin is appearing at a rally on the Boston Common sponsored by the Tea Party Express.

On the day before Tax Day, we will call attention to how a large share of the federal budget is spent on the military and call for funds to be used for jobs, healthcare, housing, public services and the environment.   We will be distributing the flyers attached to this message.

The protest, on Boston Common Wednesday, April 14, from 10am to 1pm, is sponsored by United for Justice with Peace’s Afghanistan Task Force.  We will meet at Park Street Station at 10am and move towards the Tea Party rally, which will be located on the grassy area near Beacon and Charles Streets.   If you arrive late, look for us near the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, which is the granite column on a small hill near the Parkman Bandstand.

Unitarian-Universalist groups will also be present, targeting intolerance and Standing on the Side of Love.

Our posters will say:

Jobs Not War!

Fund Human Needs -- Cut the Military Budget!

Stop the Afghanistan War!    US Troops Out of Iraq Now!

No to Sarah Palin’s Warmongering and Gay-Bashing!

Sarah Palin on:

Iran and Israel: In a Fox News interview on Feb. 7, Palin suggested that President Obama's re-election chances might improve if he would declare war on Iran and “do whatever he can to support Israel”.    Palin later said the Obama administration was wrong to criticize Israel’s building new settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Nuclear weapons: Last week, Palin criticized President Obama’s partial embrace of no first use of nuclear weapons.   She had previously objected to scrapping missile defense in Eastern Europe.

Gay rights: Palin supports a constitutional amendment banning marriage equality.   As Alaska governor, she supported a measure to take away domestic partner benefits from state workers.

Economic policy: Palin attacked health insurance reform last year, raising fear of “death panels”.   She attacked the 2009 Recovery and Reinvestment Act (stimulus), claiming it was a federal power grab.
