Minutes:

o May 02 Nuclear abolition rally in New York City -- only 4 people for the bus at this time, will decide on April 25 whether to send or cancel bus.  High school outreach proceeding.  Watertown passed a resolution supporting elimination of nuclear weapons.  Need followup to fundraising letter and recruiting efforts.

o Tea Party Rally on Boston Common -- perhaps 5000 at rally, probably 1/3 of crowd not tea party.  UJP had contingent which talked to a lot of tea party people, most of whom were not hostile.  UJP signs opened some common ground, hopefully got some publicity.

o Endorsement process discussion

voting member -- defined by structure document (represent an organization of UJP and have attended at least 1 of last 3 planning group meetings).

quorum - majority of voting members

email proposal and timing issues: if no objection, OK'd by 48 hours.  If objection, ask whether it is blocking or stand aside. Call person up.   If blocking, announce vote at next meeting.  Solicit opinions from larger planning group email list.  Other ideas: poll voting members by email, determine process for emergency planning group call.

sensitive or potentially divisive issues: needs 30 day consultation according to structure document but there is no definition of what a sensitive issue is.  Proposed that planning group determine what is a sensitive issue by the usual 2/3 majority vote.

Continue discussion next time.  The original proposal needs to be redrafted and circulated.

Afghanistan Task Force and Majority Agenda Project reported on their activities.

Social Forum -- approved UJP cosponsoring a workshop with Michigan Peace Action on War Abroad/War at Home.  UJP can sponsor a 2nd workshop.    Duncan will register UJP with the USSF.

Proposed to endorse the May 01 rally in Chelsea-Everett-East Boston and another proposal to endorse the separate rally on Boston Common.  Planning Group decided to endorse both rallies.

Next UJP Strategy Meeting, tentatively held on June 19 at Friends Meeting House.  Bring ideas for program to next planning group meeting.UJP Planning conference call, April 24, 2010
