(New Time and Place!) September 15's Brown Bag Vigil will start at 11:00 at the State House. We will join Jobs with Justice for a press conference announcing the One Nation Working Together mobilization in Washington on 10-2-10 and explain why peace activists are going to Washington. If time permits we will then move down to our usual location, Sen. Kerry's office, at about noon.

The Afghanistan war continues to destroy US and Afghan lives, but the policy underlying it has completely failed. The implosion of the corrupt Kabul Bank two weeks ago showed that the small Afghan elite bought by US money is simply building palaces in Abu Dhabi with American aid and waiting to make their getaway. It's time to stop the killing, bring our troops home, and use the money to rebuild our economy!
People are angry, and for good reason. Corporate greed and recklessness have driven the country into a crisis, and leaders in Washington have yet to offer any real solutions.
Banks are making bumper earnings and corporations are raking in record profits and sitting on more than $8 Trillion in cash reserves. Meanwhile, 15 million Americans are out of work, and without a major federal investment in creating jobs, (official) jobless rates will be 8-13% into the next decade.
We call on our Senators and Representatives to:
- Join Rep. John Conyers’ Out of Afghanistan Caucus
- Cosponsor Rep. Barbara Lee’s HR 6045: Responsible End to the War in Afghanistan Act
- Support Rep. Barney Frank’s call to reduce military spending by 25 percent, to fund our communities.
- Pass legislation like theLocal Jobs for America Act, extend the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families emergency fund jobs subsidies program, extend unemployment insurance, heed President Obama’s call to renew the countries’ infrastructure and create a national infrastructure bank, and other bills that will create jobs, protect public services, and help get our economy going again.
- Wall Street must pay their fair share for the crisis they created. A tax on financial speculation could raise $200-$500 billion every year.
