OCTOBER 2 MOBILIZATION MEETING ON AUGUST 18:

Duncan conveyed the sad news of the death of Paul's partner.  We will discuss how best to deal with this after talking to Paul.

Invitations to attend this meeting were sent out to the Activist List.  Ann sent out invites to Code Pink and Israel/Palestine group.  However, there are a lot more people to contact.  We must emphasize that community groups need to sent at least one representative to the meeting.  Milton for Peace is planning to send a letter to the editor inviting community groups in Milton to get on board for the October 2 march.  We went through the list and Shelagh will help with phone calls.  We were advised that Union 1199 has designated Jose Perez to work full time on this project.  Before we include immigrant groups, we should check it out with the organizers so that we do not tread on toes.  This also applies to environmental groups.  The agenda of the meeting will include background and the state of politics of the rally.  We need to figure out how to get our message out at the rally - ask for an anti-war speaker at the rally? Do something theatrical?  Hand out fliers to paraders?  According to Cole, the Outreach Committee will handle this but it would move things along to have a "skeleton" to work from.

The planning group endorsed the Aug. 17 JwJ, 1199 jobs action with the proviso that the announcement to UJP should include a sentence to the effect that people are encouraged to bring signs that say "Money for Jobs not War" or something similar.

SEPTEMBER 11 STRATEGY MEETING
The meeting will take place at the Friends Meeting House, Longfellow Park, Cambridge.  We want to coordinate with the October 2 group and should invite the regional NAACP representative.  Discussion followed about which speakers to approach.  It all depends on what the ONE NATION meeting will do.  Cole will contact Phyllis Bennis.  Ann will ask Jose Perez.  Cole will also ask Marving Bing.  A Program Committee was formed to contact possible speakers - Ann, Shelagh and Cole.  They will inform us by email.

SCHEDULE FOR FUTURE MEETINGS

Next meeting will be on August 25 at 11 Garden Street pesumably at 6:45 pm.  A revised scheduled will be sent out.
