Although Congress has just allocated $33 billion for a Supplemental Spending bill to pay for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, it is now posed to vote on an outsized $726 billion Defense budget for FY 2011 which contains another $157 billion for the two wars.
This summer antiwar forces mounted a significant opposition and got the largest number of "No" votes on war funding we have ever achieved, as well strong support for antiwar amendments by Barbara Lee and Jim McGovern.
How can we build on this achievement? With General Petraeus and the Pentagon pressing for a prolonged war in Afghanistan, what Congressional strategy is the "Out of Afghanistan" Caucus planning? And what is the role of the peace movement in stopping the wars and demanding new priorities in the federal budget?
Join us for updates and a sharing of national/local strategies.
