Mexico and Central America Program Film Series: Two Documentaries on Guatemala Also in conjunction with the publication of the new ReVista on Guatemala, two contributors to the issue will be presenting documentary films that they have produced at a special screening that will be held at DRCLAS on the evening of Thursday, October 14. Journalist Mary Jo McConahay will present Discovering Dominga (2003), which tells the story of a Guatemalan-born woman who returned to her native village years after being adopted by a family in Iowa. There, she grappled with the reality that the rest of her family and many other village residents had been killed in a massacre of Maya peasants that she had survived as a small child. Also, filmmaker Greg Brosnan will present In the Shadow of the Raid, which documents the impact of the massive immigration raid on the Agriprocessors slaughterhouse in Postville, Iowa, both on that Midwestern community and on the Guatemalan village from which many of the workers caught up in the raid had come. The screenings will begin at 6pm in the Tsai Auditorium on the concourse level (downstairs) of CGIS South.
