Veterans returning from war carry emotional and brain injuries that are long-lasting and call for protracted care beyond crisis intervention. Is our mental health system and our society—traditionally geared to acute care of acute problems—willing and able to provide this care? How can we enhance our military, veterans administration, and civilian mental health systems and our community support to deal with these prolonged mental health needs?
