January 26, 2011 UJP Planning Group
Attendance: Ann, Paul,(facilitates) Lois, Carol, Duncan, Cole, Virginia, Shelagh, (notes)
Two items for discussion at next meeting: UNAC and 2011 10 Years of ??? Conference. ( was there was something else?)
1. Evaluation of Strategy Conference:
Overall good feeling about the day, Thanks to Chuck Turner and Joseph Gerson for stimulating, thought provoking talks.
but: We need a timekeeper and an overall
manager. Good to have a chance to support Chuck and let him speak about what is important to him. Pot-luck great! Middle section needed more coordination- Disappointment that some key community groups were not represented-
In the future: gear towards decisions and actions.
Focus on Strategy]
Include organizations in discussion
Announcements/events section important
Are we trying to do too much?
Request to Joseph Gerson for printed copy of talk. Two of his talks covering similar ground are now on the site. (thanks Cole)
2. Chuck Turner:
Agreement that the sentence is a tragedy..
If possible arrange the meeting that Chuck requested. Duncan will communicate
With Chuck.
Ask for an appeal of the sentence. Communicate with Defense Committee.

10. 25% Task Force - Move the Money Report. Carol Coakley
presented for Mike Prokosch
"-Ten representatives of community peace groups met January 16 to compare
notes on their organizing and the 25% campaigns. Some were interested in exploring city council resolutions, some were starting to organize resolution campaigns, and one had passed a resolution. All wanted to build a broader base and a stronger organizing model. They will keep meeting every month or two for mutual support.
-The 25% campaign is helping organize budget speak-outs in cities across the state. At these speak-outs, people hurt by state and local budget cuts will testify and pressure state legislators for fairer taxes and more revenue, to plug the state's $1.5 billion budget gap this year. In some cities, people will go on to say "We need to fund our communities by ending the wars and cutting the Pentagon budget." "
-The 25% task force is planning a larger meeting in March.
