Forum on U.S. Involvement in Afghanistan and Pakistan

When: Sunday, June 14, 2009, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Where: Community Church of Providence • 372 Wayland Ave • Providence
2009 Jun 14 - 7:00pm
2009 Jun 14 - 9:00pm
There will be a public forum to analyze and discuss U.S. involvement in Afghanistan and Pakistan, especially the rapidly expanding use of military force.  Since reliable information about these countries is so scarce in mainstream media, this forum hopes to provide historical, cultural, and political context.  A Questions and Answers portion of the forum will also help stimulate public understanding and dialogue.

The forum’s two principal speakers are:

·     Dr. Hassan Abbas - Former Pakistani government official in the administrations of Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and President Pervez Musharraf, prolific author, and a Research Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science & International Affairs at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

·     Joe Gerson- Co-Program Director of Programs for the New England Region of the American Friends Service Committee, peace activist and author of the book, Empire and the Bomb.

The Community Church of Providence is at 372 Wayland Avenue on the East Side with ample free parking on nearby streets. There is handicap parking behind the church and handicap access is from Wayland Ave. This public forum is free, open, and will include light refreshments.

This event is sponsored by a coalition of RI Peace and Advocacy organizations.
