Beyond the Battle: Afghan Voices

Beyond the Battle: Afghan Voices

This on-campus event will incorporate Afghan voices into the hot debates surrounding Afghanistan today.  Fortunately, in conjunction with Tufts Institute for Global Leadership, we have put up a forum where two Afghan students, as well as a speaker from a Harvard University think tank, will be sharing distinct perspectives on the military intervention in Afghanistan.

Matan Cherov, from Harvard Belfer Center, will provide an overview of the United States foreign policy objectives in Afghanistan, followed by two Afghan students sharing contrasting perspectives, particularly on the question of troop withdrawal and escalation of war.

Maryam Shansab, a PhD student from Tufts Medical School and a member of the UJP Afghanistan Task Force, will be making the case why an American withdrawal will end the miseries the current war has brought upon the ordinary Afghans.

Javed Rezayee of the Tufts University class of 2010 will argue why a United States untimely withdrawal will leave Afghans and American interests at danger.

When: Wednesday, December 9, 2009, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm
Where: Tufts University, Braker Hall 001, 8 Upper Campus Rd, Medford.

After the presentations there will be an extended Q&A session.
