The Massachusetts Student Action Coalition (MSAC) is an independent network of Massachusetts state school students and supporters united against fee hikes, tuition increases, and budget cuts.
Higher education is indispensable to the development, continuance, and refinement of both democracy and the modern economy. It was for this reason that higher education, like primary and secondary education before it, was made public in the first place.
We believe that STUDENTS ARE NOT CUSTOMERS. Rather, they are society's most valuable cultural, political, and ECONOMIC INVESTMENTS. For every $1 the state of Massachusetts invests in public higher education, it recieves $8 back in economic growth.
Here in Boston, the most significant action against education cuts and tuition hikes on March 4th will be held at UMass-Boston beginning at 12noon outside the Campus Center.
Campus unions at UMass-Boston have planned a rally and teach-in on March 4th. Student groups are helping to plan the events with more endorsers and activists joining up by the hour. The teach-in will be held from 4pm to 7pm in the McCormack Building on the third floor in room 201.
The Massachusetts Student Action Coalition (MSAC) exists to provide a rapid-communication network for students in Massachusetts' public higher education system, and to coordinate group actions throughout the state.
MSAC fights to see at least 50% of funding for all institutions of public higher education come from the state.
Massachusetts is ranked 46th in the country for funding of public higher education. This is unacceptable, please help us end this trend of setting aside higher education and join the coalition today!
