The Whistleblower (film)

When: Thursday, March 1, 2012, 2:00 pm
Where: Wellesley College • Pendleton East 239 Amphitheater • Wellesley

This ripped-from-the-headlines thriller film is inspired by actual events. Kathy Bolkovac (Rachel Weisz) is a Nebraskan police officer, who takes a job working as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia. Her expectations of helping to rebuild a devastated country are dashed when she uncovers a dangerous reality of corruption, cover-up and intrigue amid a world of private contractors and multinational diplomatic doubletalk. Madeleine Rees, chief of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Sarajevo from 2006 to 2010, is featured in the film and was invited by UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to testify before the UN regarding the events and the problem of UN accountability for human trafficking in conflict and post-conflict settings.

Following the screening of the film we will be talking with Madeleine Rees.
