When: Sunday, February 12, 2017, 11:00 am to 1:30 pm
Where: Community Church of Boston • 565 Boylston Street, 2nd floor • 02116 • Boston

Families for Justice as Healing (FJAH) founded in 2010 inside the federal prison for women in Danbury, CT. by Andrea James who sought to create an organization with the crucial, yet often overlooked, focus on incarcerated mothers and the impact on their children. FJAH has been active building coalitions nationally, advocating in legislatures, and raising public awareness about the need to shift from over criminalization and incarceration to reinvestment in communities.

Andrea James has worked within the criminal justice system for more than 25 years as a youth worker for a former criminal defense attorney. She has dedicated her time and resources to provide representation for families within her community of Roxbury, MA. In 2009 she was sentenced to a 24-months in prison. Andrea who was stunned by her experience there, is committed to fulfilling the promise she made to the women who remain -- to speak their truth; advocate for an end to the war on drugs; and support a shift towards community wellness.

Andrea is the author of Upper Bunkies Unite: And Other Thoughts On The Politics of Mass IncarcerationA Letter To My Children From A Mad, Black, Incarcerated Mother, and My Grandparents Are Polar Bears.  Andrea continues developing her projects, Real Women, Real Voices, and for daughters of incarcerated women, Daughters of Justice.
