Authors Talk: Growing up in an American Communist Family

When: Sunday, October 8, 2017, 11:00 am to 1:30 pm
Where: Community Church of Boston • 565 Boylston Street, 2nd floor • Boston

Dan Lynn Watts and Tim Wheeler will discuss their books and what it was like growing up in an era of political repression and in an anti-communist environment.

History Lessons traces civil rights and antiwar activist Dan Lynn Watt's journey through childhood in New York during the McCarthy era. He marched on May Day with his war hero father and activist mother. He takes you inside family struggles against racism and political repression.

News reporter Tim Wheeler book, News From Rain Shadow Country, recounts stories about his childhood and youth on a dairy farm in Washington State. His parents were blacklisted by Cold War anti-communism. Yet his book is filled with stories of triumphs over hate and fear, neighborhood friendships, good life during the movement for union rights, equality and world peace. Wheeler writes for the Worker, Daily World, and now the online People's World.
