Reminder: Rally to Close Guantanamo and Give it back to Cuba!

When: Saturday, February 24, 2018, 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm
Where: Park Street Station • Tremont and Park Streets • Boston

Join us Saturday, February 24, 1 pm at Park Street to demand that the detention center at Guantanamo be shut down and that the Guantanamo Bay base be returned to Cuba.

February 23 is the 115th anniversary of when the US seized Guantanamo from Cuba as a result of the provoked Spanish American war.  It has been a sore point in Cuba-US relations for a long time.  Our country should give Guantanamo back to Cuba and begin to heal our relationship with that brave nation, that has withstood the most brutal US embargo for decades, while managing to do good works around the world in spite of it.

Under US control, Guantanamo has become a center of torture -- a prison where the prisoners do not have any legal protections or rights, a shameful disrespect of human rights and international law.

Forty-one men remain at Guantanamo.  Five of them have been cleared for release long since.  Ten of them are being tried in military commissions in connection with attacks including the one on September 11, 2001.  None of the men has any likely chance of leaving Guantanamo any time soon.

Not only is President Trump refusing to close Guantanamo prison but he intends to send even more prisoners there to experience inhumane and illegal treatment.

We need to keep this issue alive in the public mind and in our representatives' minds.

Let's gather and express our outrage that our government keeps detaining Muslim men, mostly without charge or trial.  This is not the kind of country we want to be!

This rally is organized by the Committee for Peace and Human Rights, No Bases Coalition, United National Antiwar Coalition, United for Justice with Peace, July 26 Coalition, and Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom Boston chapter.  Contact or 617-776-6524 with questions.
