Korea: A Post-Summit Assessment of the Crisis

Joseph Gerson

With Dr. Joseph Gerson

When: Thursday, June 14, 2018, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Where: Friends Meeting in Cambridge • 5 Longfellow Park • Cambridge

President Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong-Un met in Singapore on June 12. Issues before them included denuclearization of the Korean peninsula,  a peace treaty to end the Korean war, and a non-aggression pact.  With leading Democrats taking a hawkish stand and challenging Trump from the right, there are sure to be dueling interpretations of the summit results.

Join us as Joseph Gerson untangles these complex developments in the summit’s aftermath.  Gerson’s most recent book is Empire and the Bomb.  He is director of Programs for the American Friends Service Committee, president of the Campaign for Peace, Disarmament, and Common Security, and liaison with international peace movements, having recently returned from Japan. His article “No Fire, No Fury: Common Security Diplomacy to Resolve the US-North Korean Crisis” appeared in Common Dreams.

Sponsored by Massachusetts Peace Action, American Friends Service Committee, Campaign for Peace, Disarmament and Common Security, and Veterans for Peace/ Smedley Butler Brigade
