"2020: Make or Break for Global Environment and Peace” with Mazin Qumsiyeh

When: Monday, January 13, 2020, 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm
Where: Community Church of Boston • 565 Boylston Street • 2nd fl. • Boston

We welcome back with open arms this engaging and celebrated Palestinian scientist, lecturer and activist. We thank our co-sponsors for hosting this event with us, as part of our 100th Anniversary Celebration.

Qumsiyeh will discuss the historical and geopolitical context on how we arrived at the junction where even climate change conferences end in admitted failure, conflicts rage in the Arab World, elite populists (Trump, Modi, Netanyahu) run powerful countries, and people follow like lemmings to the cliff. He articulates actions of mitigation and adaptation.

Prof. Mazin Qumsiyeh is a teacher and researcher at Bethlehem and Birzeit Universities. He served as faculty at the U. Tennessee, and at Duke, and Yale Universities. He and his wife have started a number of institutions and projects such as a clinical genetics laboratory that serves cancer and other patients. Qumsiyeh has published many books and papers on topics ranging from cultural heritage to biodiversity to cancer. Qumsiyeh believes in youth empowerment towards social and environmental causes and serves on the board of a number of Palestinian youth and service organizations. PIBS-BU has become a “Mecca” for visitors to Palestine from around the world. He and his wife and dozens of other volunteers and staff at PIBS continue to have “Joyful participation in the sorrows of this world” and make a real difference for sustainability of nature and human communities.

Co-sponsors: Jewish Voice for Peace, Universal Unitarians for Justice in the Middle East, The Gralta Foundation, Alliance for water Justice, New Hampshire Palestine Education Network.
